Kelvinator Side-by-Side Fridges

Side-by-side Kelvinator fridges split the cabinet vertically into a full-height fridge and full-height freezer, often with through-door water and ice dispensers.

Kelvinator Side-by-Side Fridges

Technical overview

Side-by-side Kelvinator fridges offer large capacity with two vertical columns. Most are frost-free with dual evaporators or a single forced-air system with damper control. The water dispenser, ice maker and associated solenoid valves add complexity. Common faults involve the defrost system, dispenser solenoids, evaporator fan motors and the main control board. These units are sensitive to door seal integrity because of the tall, narrow gasket runs.

Common faults
  • ▸ Water dispenser not working
  • ▸ Ice maker failure
  • ▸ Not cooling
  • ▸ Defrost fault
  • ▸ Fan motor failure

Known faults

Compressor Failure

Compressor does not start, or runs but does not pump refrigerant.

Both Zones Warm

Neither fridge nor freezer reaches set temperature.

Not Cooling

The fridge or freezer runs but cabinet temperature does not drop to set point.

Evaporator Icing

Frost-free unit ices up the evaporator, blocking airflow to the fridge.

Fridge Warm, Freezer Cold

Freezer reaches temperature but fridge compartment stays warm.

Fan Noise

Evaporator or condenser fan makes abnormal noise or stops running.

Water Dispenser Not Working

No water dispenses through the door, or flow is intermittent.

Door Seal Leak

Worn or damaged gasket allows warm air into the cabinet.

Water Leak

Water pools under or inside the fridge from the dispenser or defrost system.
